Terms of Use

By using the Little Ledger application at bank.onesmallstep.hk ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What this Service is

Little Ledger is a virtual savings simulator built to help parents teach their children about money, saving, interest, and goal-setting. It is operated as a personal project by One Small Step ("we").

Little Ledger is not a bank. It does not hold real money, does not process real payments, and is not regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority or any other financial authority. Balances shown in the Service are virtual numbers used for educational purposes only. They have no legal value, cannot be redeemed, transferred to a real bank account, or exchanged for real currency.

2. Eligibility

You must be 18 years of age or older to create a parent account. Children's accounts are created by their parents or guardians, who consent on behalf of the child to the use of the Service.

You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your login details (email and password) secure. You are responsible for all activity in your family ledger.

3. The Service is provided "as is"

The Service is provided free of charge, as a personal/educational tool, on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranty, express or implied, that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
• Bugs will be corrected
• The Service or its servers are free of viruses or harmful components
• Stored data will not be lost or corrupted

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (in whole or in part) at any time, with or without notice.

4. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, One Small Step is not liable for:

• Any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service
• Loss of data, loss of use, or loss of educational benefit
• Any disputes between family members about virtual balances, deposits, requests, or other in-app actions
• Any decision a child or parent makes inspired by use of the Service, including any real-world financial decision

If you do not agree with this limitation, your only remedy is to stop using the Service.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any other family's data
• Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or its hosting infrastructure
• Upload illegal, infringing, harmful, sexual, violent, or grossly inappropriate content (including in wallpapers, child names, or transaction notes)
• Use the Service in any way that could be construed as real financial advice, real banking, or a real payments service
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, automate access to, or build derivative commercial services from the Service
• Impersonate another person or family

We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice.

6. Children

The Service is designed for children to use under parental supervision. Children's data is treated with extra care (see the Privacy Policy). Parents and guardians are responsible for any content they upload (including wallpaper images) and for any virtual transactions they make on behalf of their children.

7. Account termination

You may delete a child's account from the parent dashboard. To delete your entire family ledger, email hkonesmallstep@gmail.com.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that are abandoned for an extended period. After termination we will delete your data per the Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, its source code, design, and content are owned by One Small Step except where third-party libraries are used under their respective licences (e.g. Astro, React, Tailwind CSS). You may not copy, distribute, or commercially exploit the Service without written permission.

Your data (your children's names, transactions, etc.) remains yours. Wallpaper images you upload remain yours; you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and serve them within the Service for your family's use.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date will reflect any change. Material changes will be communicated within the Service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Hong Kong courts.
